POLYASPARTIC FLOORING

Polyurea Polyaspartic is one of the best alternatives to epoxy. Recently, there has been quite a buzz about this floor coating. Most installers will recommend you polyurea polyaspartic flooring for your garage. It is known as the “1-day coating” system because of its fast-cure capability. Suppose you are confused about whether polyurea polyaspartic is an epoxy or not. Why should you get your garage flooring done using polyaspartic coating, and is the hype about polyurea polyaspartic flooring worth it? Let’s get the answer to these questions now:

WHAT IS POLYASPARTIC FLOORING?

Polyurea is a composition of two components like epoxy. It is a subgroup of polyurethane. A hard mixture is achieved by combining the two parts and catalyzes quickly. Comparatively Polyurea mixture is more flexible than epoxy. It is known as the fastest cure as it becomes hardest within 5 mins. Specialized equipment is required to apply the polyurea mixture. It is an aliphatic polyurea as it results from aliphatic diamine and aliphatic polyisocyanate reaction. In short, polyaspartic is a slowed-down polyurea that allows the trained applicators to apply the mixture easily with less hurry. But all polyureas are not polyaspartic. When you are looking for a garage floor coating you will find the polyurea in the slowed-down version.

WHY SHOULD YOU GET YOUR GARAGE FLOORING DONE USING POLYASPARTIC COATING?

One of the benefits of garage floor coating with polyaspartic is that it can be applied at high temperatures (as 140°F) and low temperatures (-30°F), which cannot be done with epoxy. So, whether you live in a hot or cold climate, you can coat your garage with polyaspartic. You can apply a polyurea polyaspartic coating system one day and start using your garage the other day. It is impossible with epoxy coating as you need to wait for 3-5 days after the coat is done. Thus, there is a massive hype about the one-day coating system. There are some other advantages of the Polyurea Polyaspartic flooring in your garage:

  • It gives a gloss finish to the floor, which not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your floor but provides protection from moisture

  • It doesn’t get yellow over time because it is 100% UV stable

  • It is resistant to scratch and abrasion

  • It is resistant to chemicals and stains

  • The coating forms a strong bond with concrete with penetration

  • It has low VOC’s

  • It is heat-tolerant

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE THE APPLICATION OF POLYUREA POLYASPARTIC GARAGE FLOORING

Although it is one of the best flooring systems in the case of overly porous concrete, the proportion of moisture transmission increases; thus, polyaspartic flooring system is not the most appropriate solution. You need to test the porosity and moisture of your concrete floor before applying any coating system.

Under appropriate circumstances polyurea polyaspartic floor coatings require just 1-day for your floor to be fully functional. Make sure that your flooring company tests the porosity and moisture of your garage floor.
